It’s going to be a fun Oscar night for Gary Oldman?

All right now. You know this man I presume. Probably the most talented and respected actor of his generation and probably one of the finest British exports in the last few decades. Gary Oldman.

Well, Mr. Oldman received his second Academy Award nomination for his superb portrayal of the Ex British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, in the biopic Darkest Hour.

He’s also the favorite to pick up this award on March 4th as he’s already won every acting award to date, including a Golden Globe and a SAG award. But why would the Oscar night be very fun for him you might ask?

Well remember how few years ago Kathryn Bigelow was nominated for an Academy Award and so was her ex-husband James Cameron (at the same time)?

Yup. You’ve guessed it. Gary Oldman’s ex-wife is also nominated for an Academy Award (at the same time). Lesley Manville received her first Academy Award nomination in the Best Supporting actor category for her effort in Phantom Thread- the Paul Thomas Anderson’s period piece drama.

Lesley is Gary Oldman’s first wife. They were married from 1987 until 1990 and she is the mother of Gary’s eldest son Alfie Oldman. Oldman left her in 1989, three months after their son, Alfie was born but since they have worked together on A Christmas Carol (2009).

I know that much of the praise was directed at Daniel Day Louis, and his performance (being his last in career apparently) but Lesley is also one fine actress that deserves the praise and accolades of a true auteur.

I just hope things don’t get too awkward for them both on the red carpet. The Academy Awards will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California at 5:00 p.m. PST on March 4, 2018. Jimmy Kimmel will host the ceremony for a second time in a row.
