Gary Oldman channels Winston Churchill in the first Darkest Hour trailer
Gary Oldman in his lustrous and enviable career has played rocks stars (Sid Vicious) assassins (Lee Harvey Oswald), legendary composers (Ludwig van Beethoven) and now a legendary British prime minister. Winston Churchill.
Darkest Hour is his latest work and the first trailer for the biographical drama is already released for the actor’s adoring fans (me included). Under heavy prosthetics, make up and brilliant acting from Oldman himself, the British auteur is actually a strong Oscar favorite even from the mid-summer movie perspective.
Whether or not Oldman receives an Oscar nomination (or potential Oscar win) remains to be seen, but in Joe Wright’s latest movie Darkest Hour he’s playing one of the most renowned politicians in British history. Winston Churchill. Darkest Hour chronicles Churchill’s struggle weather to negotiate a peaceful agreement with the Nazis at the beginning of WWII or to fight them.
The movie also stars Lily James, Ben Mendelsohn, Stephen Dillane, Kristin Scott Thomas, Ronald Pickup and opens on 22 November 2017 in the US.
