Charlize Theron is right about 2 things
You know this woman I presume. An Academy Award winner, one of the most gorgeous statuesque women in Hollywood and a bad-ass lady in general. Yup. I’m talking about Charlize Theron.
She’s currently promoting her latest film Tully and among other things she shared about her new role. The role of Marlo in Tully came with a baggage of 50 LBS weight gain, and I just loved how refreshingly open she was in the process.
Most of the actresses that had gained weight for a role, talked about how wonderful and freeing it was for them to eat like pigs for a period of time. How they devoured pizzas and plates of brownies and they make it sound so easy and wonderful. Well it’s not and Charlize just said it out loud.
In her latest interview for Entertainment Tonight, she said 2 crucial things that made me love her even more.
First how depressing the process of gaining weight rally is. Not just the state of being overweight. The process of gaining weight, regardless if it’s 20 or 50 LBS.
You’re miserable, without energy, you’re aching and depressed. Nobody talks about this. The depression during and after weight gain. Especially if you were a thin person before, it’s hard on you even more.
‘You know, it was a huge surprise to me. I got hit in the face pretty hard with depression. Yeah, for the first time in my life I was eating so much processed foods and I drank way too much sugar. I was not that fun to be around on this film. The first three weeks are always fun because you’re just like a kid in a candy store. And then after three weeks, it’s not fun anymore. Like, all of a sudden you’re just done eating that amount and then it becomes a job. I remember having to set my alarm in the middle of the night in order to just maintain [the weight].’ she revealed for EW.
Think about it. She was getting a huuuge paycheck for it, and still hated it. Second thing that impressed me about it was the admitting that her body is not like it used to be. Especially when she had to lose all that weight. It took her a year and a half and it was actual hell. Year and a half !
Yeah welcome to the real world honey. Now… bear in mind that this is a wealthy woman that can hire the best personal trainers, nutritionists and wellness coaches in the world. And it still took her more than a year to lose the weight. Why? Because she’s not 27 anymore- that’s why! She’s now in her 40’s and her metabolism is much slower.
‘I was worried. I was like, this is taking a really long time. ‘Because on Monster, I just didn’t snack for five days and I was fine. You know your body at 27 is a little different than your body at 43, and my doctor made sure to make me very aware of that. Like, you are 42, calm down, you’re not dying, all good.’
Yeah! That’s another thing. Things are way slower as you get older and that also implies for your body. Remember that you had mild hangovers in your 20’s, but now in your 30’s and 40’s they are a 3 day event? Well it’s the same thing with your body. You’re not 20 anymore, and you cannot burn that fat like you used to. I’m glad that even Charlize is experiencing that. I’m glad that she’s one of us, and not afraid to say it out loud. Good for you.
Oh, and P.S. I cannot wait for Tully.
