John Goodman is a god damn national treasure
John Goodman is a national treasure. He needs to be protected and treasured at all costs.
Besides the fact that he’s one of the most talented (and yet criminally underrated) actors of his generation, he’s apparently a decent human being. You’re familiar with the Roseanne shit-storm that has been raging on for 2 days straight. Well, since today, Roseanne’s fellow colleague he’s been keeping mum about the Roseanne Barr induced scandal and subsequent cancellation of the hit sitcom Roseanne. Toady Mr. Goodman had something to say about it, and it was not what the majority of the public expected.
“It’s not that I disrespect you guys. I would rather say nothing than to cause more trouble,” “I wasn’t gonna get an Emmy anyway,” he said when asked if he thought the Barr controversy would cost him the award. “I’ve been up there 12 times already and if I don’t get one by now, I’m not going to get one.”
Wow. What a class form Mr. Goodman. Class act indeed. Think about it. He could have been adding oil to the fire and making things worse with his words, but he chose to be smart, humble and dignified throughout all this. He could have been bashing Roseanne, expressing political opinions or just calling her out and her racist stupidity, and he would have been right. He had every right to do so.
He could have been making money by exposing on set secrets about her, and he could have been pointing fingers too. But no. Not John. He’s a treasure that most of us don’t deserve. I’ve always been a fan of his, but in more recent times, even more so.
And it’s not just because of his dignified response towards the scandal. I loved how open and honest he was about his alcoholism struggles. I saw a recent interview where he talked about his long-lasting alcohol addiction and how he hit rock bottom before asking for help. Which is a common theme among us addicts. We share that in common actually. We are recovering alcoholics and up until recently, I came up with the courage to talk about it in public. I wish him well in his recovery.
But on the subject or Roseanne. There are talks that the producers are looking for a potential spin off without Bar and I’m hoping that Goodman joins the cast in that too. He’s been an integral and invaluable part of the show’s success and he (along with the rest of the cast) deserve to be there.
Love you John Goodman! You’re a true national treasure.
