Catherine Deneuve is a dinosaur too!
Lisa Bloom described (or should I say defended) Harvey Weinstein and his actions as „ an old dinosaur learning new ways“ . Today I’m sad to say that I found out that Catherine Deneuve is an old dinosaur too, but the one that is not learning new ways.
You’ve probably heard the news about her. She and 100 other women denounced the #MeToo campaign against sexual harassment as a “witch-hunt” against men. She and the rest of the women had signed an open letter (published in Le Monde) blasting the new “puritanism” of the avalanche of “denunciations” as they called the recent accusations of sexual molestation towards powerful Hollywood men.
“Rape is a crime, but flirting, even persistently or cack-handedly, is not – nor is men being gallant a macho attack,.“We defend the freedom to importune, indispensable for sexual freedom.” red the letter.
Oh come on lady! I don’t think she can differentiate the very distinct polar opposites. Rape and sexual harassment on the one side, and harmless flirting on the other. She is just simply defending the sexual predators in almost every industry, and especially in the industry that she’s been a part of for a better part of 5 decades, and that’s just sad. I don’t know what were the norms in her day, but nowadays it’s very much forbidden to harass women and to expect them to perform sexual acts in order to get a job.
„Rape is a crime. But insistent or clumsy flirting is not an offence, nor is gallantry a macho aggression.“
Look, I’m sure that many couples met and fell in love in the office space or wherever that job may be. I’m not denying that that doesn’t exist. But I don’t think I should remind Miss Deneuve that many women who come to work, they do that just for the paycheck. Not to flirt, or to start an affair, or to bag a husband.
And hence, they don’t need the added pressure that is harassment on the workplace. We have enough problems with pay-inequality, discrimination and sexism, and really the fear of sexual harassment in the workplace should not be added to the list.
So yeah… Catherine Deneuve is an old dinosaur too. The one that will likely go instinct if she doesn’t change and adapt to the modern and acceptable times. And when I come to think that I used to think of her as a progressive, Bohemian French cool actress…. I shudder. I shudder.
Same. SAME. I am so disappointed in her. It was bad enough being a Polanski apologist and I had to pretend I didn’t hear her say that just this past year, in order to enjoy her films. But this? Such a slap in the face to women everywhere, especially her own countrywomen!
Methinks Ms. Deneuve is not a friend of womankind, whatever the reasons behind it. Shame, really.
Thank yoooou! Well said! I agree completely with you!
