A Brief Look At All The Biopics Until The End Of 2018

Ah biopics. Love them or hate them, they’re here to stay. They’re produced to provide an insider look at some of the greatest minds, and moments of our history, but also to provide tearjerker moments and a few potential Oscar speeches.

The A-List stars love to transform into a real life character, and this year is going to have an abundance of biopics. In the next 5 months or so, Hollywood will present some of the finest biographical movies inspired by real stories and I feel that you have to know them.

Starting from this month’s release Billionaire Boys Club (with Kevin Spacey in the role) and all the way up to December’s Backseat. The accuracy of the events and people depicted in these films will be open to debate and interpretation, but there is no denying that there are some potentially awesome movies coming up in the next few months.

Here they are. All the biopics until the end of 2018.

Billionaire Boys Club

Director: James Cox
Stars: Taron Egerton, Emma Roberts, Cary Elwes…
Premiere date: July 17 2018
Fun fact about the movie: Unlike with All the Money in the World (2017), Kevin Spacey’s performance was kept intact despite sexual misconduct allegations.

City of Lies

Director: Brad Furman
Stars: Johnny Depp, Forest Whitaker, Toby Huss…
Premiere date: September 7 2018
Fun fact about the movie: both characters Rafael Perez and Frank Lyga, are based on real people with the same name as in the movie, during the 90’s, these two policemen were very infamous in Rampart Scandal, on which this film is based.

White Boy Rick

Director: Yann Demange

Fun fact about the movie: As of July 14th 2017 “White Boy Rick” had been paroled from the MICHIGAN prison system after 29 years. Upon release Mr. Wershe was immediately turned over to U.S. marshals for transfer to FLORIDA and begin serving time there on a separate charge.

Fun fact about the movie: Westmoreland had originally written the script in 2001, but could not get the film made at that time.

The Old Man & the Gun

Fun fact about the movie: Sissy Spacek and Robert Redford won an Oscar in the same year. Spacek won as Best Actress in a Leading Role for Coal Miner’s Daughter (1980) and Redford won as Best Director for Ordinary People (1980).

Beautiful Boy

Fun fact about the movie: Timothée Chalamet had to lose 25 lbs for his role as Nic Sheff. He also had a Consultant/Doctor on set to ensure his acting was realistic and authentic as to a drug addict.

Fun fact about the movie: Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe, who portrays the parents in this film, have previously portrayed the parents of separate DC superheroes; Crowe was the father of Superman in Man of Steel (2013) and Kidman the mother of the titular character in Aquaman (2018).

Fun fact about the movie: This will be the second time that Saoirse Ronan and Vanessa Redgrave are cast as the same characters on screen. Vanessa Redgrave previously played Mary Stuart in ”Mary Queen of Scots” (1971). She also played the older Briony Tallis in ”Atonement” (2007) to the younger Briony played by Saoirse Ronan.

Fun fact about the movie: Natalie Portman was attached to star as Ruth Bader Ginsburg for at least 4 years as the project was stuck in development. She eventually dropped out and was replaced by Felicity Jones.
