Bohemian Rhapsody Vol 1: Introducing Gwilym Lee
It’s hard to believe, but the role of Brian May in Bohemian Rhapsody is the first main role for Gwilym Lee in his decade long film career.
He’s been part of The Tourist (the Angelina Jolie/Johnny Depp movie) and also part of the period piece drama The Last Witness. However, up until the taking on the role of Brian May in Brian Singer’ Bohemian Rhapsody Gwilym Lee was a well-established face on British TV.
He’s been part of the cult British TV series Midsomer Murders (for 15 episodes arch), and since 2017 he’s been also part of the period piece drama series Jamestown. Set in 1619, Jamestown follows the first English settlers as they establish a community in the New World, and it’s already been renewed for a third season.
And how charming is Gwilum in the role of Brian May? I’ll let May’s wife tell you something about it. Yeah, even the former EastEnders actress Anita Dobson, who has been married to 71-year-old Brian for 18 years, found he husband’s young double totally irresistible.
“It was like looking at Brian when I first met him,” said Anita. “It was very strange. They’re the same height, they’ve got quite a lot of similarity in the face, and once he put the curly jet black wig on, looking at him was quite bizarre.
Frankly, i couldn’t agree with her more. The similarity between Gwilym and Brian is uncanny and I’m sure he’s done a great job portraying the legendary guitar player in Bohemian Rhapsody.
