Biopics and movies inspired by true events are traditionally an Oscar bate.

They are darlings of Film festivals and Award circuit release dates, so they are considered „the end of the year“ viewing treats. They are usually dramas, and most often than not are uplifting stories about overcoming failure, grief or defeat.
