Blast from the past

Dolores O’Riordan actually made You’ve got mail better!

Yesterday the music world lost one hell of an artist. Dolores O’Riordan, the lead singer of the Irish band Cranberries died suddenly at the age of 46. The cause of death is still unknown, but I don’t want to talk about her untimely death.

I want to talk about her music, and the music legacy she left behind. As a huge fan of the Cranberries, I was actually pleasantly surprised back in the late 90’s when I heard Dreams in the opening 10 minutes of probably one of the best rom coms ever. You’ve got mail.

As I learned about Miss O’Riordan’s death, I immediately remembered her voice and one of my favorite songs of The Cranberries (Dreams) in one of my favorite movies ever!

And it could not be more perfect fit actually. As we see the lives and morning routines of Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks in their perfect apartments with their perfect partners we, get to hear Meg’s perfect voice through narration, and Dreams in the background.

Meg and Tom walk through NY on their way to work, not knowing that they are connected beyond their email screen names (Shop-girl and NY152 if you recall). It’s truly one brilliant scene accompanied by one of the most serene and beautiful songs ever recorder. So, in memory of Dolores O’Riordan and her contribution to You’ve got mail…

I give you….
