Well folks it’s finally here. The first teaser for I, Toya- the sport/black comedy biopic in which Margot Robbie plays the ex-notorious figure skater Tonya Harding.

The teaser for the Craig Gillespie directed movie is not even 1 minute long, but there is plenty to see even from the limited amount of footage. I, Tonya tells the story about ex-spouses Tonya Harding and Jeff Gilooly which hired a man to break his leg to Harding competitor Nancy Kerrigan at the national figure skating championship in 1994, which led to the end of Harding’s career in figure skating and the beginning in wrestling and boxing .

Caitlin Carver took the role of Nancy Kerrigan while Sebastian Stan is playing Jeff Gilooly. Allison Janney, Julianne Nicholson, Bojana Novakovic and Bobby Cannavale are also in the cast and the movie is expected to open on December 8th.

I, Tonya is considered even this early in the award circuit a major Oscar contender, most notably for the best actress category and if given a proper campaign, Robbie could grab a Best actress in a leading role in January next year.

Official Synopsis for I, Tonya:

Based on the unbelievable but true events, I, TONYA is a darkly comedic tale of American figure skater, Tonya Harding, and one of the most sensational scandals in sports history. Though Harding was the first American woman to complete a triple axel in competition, her legacy was forever defined by her association with an infamous, ill-conceived, and even more poorly executed attack on fellow Olympic competitor Nancy Kerrigan. Featuring an iconic turn by Margot Robbie as the fiery Harding, a mustachioed Sebastian Stan as her impetuous ex-husband Jeff Gillooly, a tour-de-force performance from Allison Janney as her acid-tongued mother, LaVona Golden, and an original screenplay by Steven Rogers, Craig Gillespie’s I, TONYA is an absurd, irreverent, and piercing portrayal of Harding’s life and career in all of its unchecked––and checkered––glory.
