2018 Oscar contenders: Best actor in a leading role

Oscars are slowly but surely coming up people, and we need to address the favorites, the contenders on time.
Now, I already talked about the contenders in the best leading actress category in my previous post, but I think it’s time to talk about the gentlemen. Will 2018 be lucky for Daniel day Lewis and can he win his fourth Oscar?
He announced his retirement early this year and Phantom Thread will be his last movie. But wait… Maybe 2018 will be the year in which Gary Oldman finally gets the accolade, you know the Oscar that he so desperately deserves.
We’ll find out in March 2018 for sure, but until then let’s present the early Oscar contenders in the best actor in a leading role category. Who are they? Scroll down and have a look.

Movie: Darkest Hour
Previous wins: No but he was nominated once before for best leading actor in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
Fun fact about the movie: The second film about Churchill in 2017, the first being Churchill (2017), starring Brian Cox.
Daniel Day-Lewis
Movie: Phantom Thread
Previous wins: 3 but who’s counting?
Fun fact about the movie: Paul Thomas Anderson’s second film to explore the 1950s after The Master (2012).
Jake Gyllenhaal
Movie: Stronger
Previous wins: none, but he was nominated once before for best leading actor in Brokeback Mountain.
Fun fact about the movie: Jake Gyllenhaal’s eyes are blue in real life, however, in the movie they are dark brown.
Denzel Washington
Movie: Roman Israel, Esq.
Previous wins: 2 one for best leading actor (Training day) and one for best supporting actor (Glory).
Fun fact about the movie: In Roman J. Israel, Esq. (2017) there’s a visible gap between Denzel Washington’s two front teeth that he hasn’t sported since high school. Washington fixed the gap between his front teeth sometime after high school, but for this role the actor removed his dental caps again.
Tom Hanks
Movie: The Post
Previous wins: 2 back to back wins for best actor in a leading role back in the 90’s (Philadelphia and Forrest Gump).
Fun fact about the movie: This is the fifth feature film collaboration of actor Tom Hanks and director Steven Spielberg. The earlier films were [in chronological order]: Saving Private Ryan (1998), Catch Me If You Can (2002), The Terminal (2004), and Bridge of Spies (2015).
Hugh Jackman
Movie: The Greatest Showman on Earth
Previous wins: none but he was nominated for best leading actor in Les Miserables.
Fun fact about the movie: This has been a dream project for Hugh Jackman since 2009.
