You’ve probably heard the news. The sad, sad news.  The NBA legend and probably one of the greatest basketball players Kobe Bryant died today after a fatal helicopter crash in California.

Kobe Bryant was 41 years old, and behind him he leaves his wife Vanessa and three daughters. One of his daughters apparently died in the same crash, according fo some reports from the scene. Fans all over the world are shocked and in disbelieved in his passing (including myself) and as I’m writing this, other tributes about his career achievements are pouring as well.

But I’m not here to list them all. Yes, was a 4 time MVP award winner, 5 times NBA champ and two times Olympic champion. He was a husband, a father, a brother, but he was an Oscar winner as well. Yes Kobe Bryant won an Oscar.

Just 2 short years ago, Kobe won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film for his movie Dear basketball. The short film was based on a letter Kobe Bryant wrote to The Players’ Tribune on November 29, 2015 announcing his retirement from basketball, and it was one of the best short movies of 2017.

It was written, narrated by Kobe and it even had music composed by the other legend John Williams.

Kobe Bryant was sometimes a flawed man, but underneath those flaws lied a great warrior, a fantastic athlete and an incredible spirit.

RIP Kobe Bryant.
