Tom Cruise: A true Maverick Or Just Insane?

You’ve probably heard about this guy. I’m talking about Tom Cruise. You have? Good.
The original daredevil (yeah I’m talking about Tom) is yet to perform his most scary move yet, and it’s all for his latest flick. Tom Gun- Maverick.
The shooting for Maverick is well underway and is likely to continue until the spring of 2019, but he’ll be flying certain aircrafts in this movie too. Yeah… Aircrafts.
Now, you’ve also probably seen the freakishly dangerous stunts he pulled in Mission Impossible Fallout, so he’s going to up the ante on Maverick. You might think that he’ll be satisfied with a basic simulator training and actual shooting, but that’s Tom Cruise we’re talking about.
The dude will be actually flying an aircraft, and while there were some reports of him flying a military-grade fighter jets (F/A-18 Hornets), those claims were debunked by the production team.
But despite all that, one begs the question. Is he a true Maverick or just insane? Look, Tom’s dedication to doing his own stunts for his movies goes beyond obsession, and it’s clearly getting to the point when it’s scary, and not for the faint of heart. But what’s the purpose of this? He’s not getting any younger that’s for sure, but he continues to pull these dangerous stunts all by himself at the cost of his health. He broke an ankle while shooting Fallout, and don’t even get me started on that Skydiving scene in the very same movie.
I’m sure any reasonable man would let a professional (a stunt man or at a very least a pilot) handle those scenes, but not him. Yes, he’s meticulous and dedicated professionals, but when is enough? He’s pushing the limits for his own personal artistry or just for good publicity? I think it’s a little bit of both actually.
Yes, I know that he’s doing it for the sake of the movie but, one have to admit that he’s doing it for the publicity too. His involvement in Scientology damaged his career significantly, so he’s diverting the unwanted attention and focusing it on his thrill seeking stunts.
That being said… I’m not bothered by it. If he wants to jump from outer space, he’s allowed to do so, but at the same time… he’s Tom Cruise. Of course he’ll be doing that. He’s our last action hero.
Top Gun: Maverick will take place over 30 years after the events of the first film, this time with Tom Cruise as an instructor at the Top Gun flight school. Val Kilmer is also reprising his role as Iceman amongst a packed cast including Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm and Ed Harris. Cruise’s Maverick will become the mentor of the late Goose’s son, played by Miles Teller.
