The year of Hugh Jackman? More like years…

Share:

Well, we all saw it coming actually. Ever since Logan premiered earlier this year. It was bound to happen. And by it, I mean Hugh Jackman’s slow and steady career renaissance.

No, it did not happened this year. Of course not. It was a gradual process for the Aussie actor. Yes, he was nominated for an Academy award for 2012’s Les Miserables, but his fans and admirers would much rather see him get another nomination for the role he’s recognized globally. That of Logan/Wolverine.

Jackman actually had his peak with precisely that role. Back in March, he graced us a with Logan and I personally would love to see him get a nod for his last role as the famed mutant. If there is justice in the world, he will but there is plenty of hope for that in his 2 other works that a coming to theaters.

Now before I elaborate about them, I’d like to briefly mention on interesting fact. Up until now, Jackman has never NEVER played a real life character on film. He played literary characters, comic book characters and plenty other fictional character but not one that actually existed before (or still exists now).

Well, that is about to change, because in Jackman’s two upcoming characters he’s not just playing a real life people, one of them is still alive. First at the end of this year there is The Greatest showman. American biographical musical drama film directed by Michael Gracey in which Jackman is portraying American showman P. T. Barnum, founder of the circus that became the famous traveling Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson and Zendaya are also in the cast and the movie premiers on Christmas day of this year.

But let’s not forget Jason Reitman’s The frontrunner. The first photo of Jackman in the role of American Senator Gary Hart has already been published and although it’s scheduled to appear in theaters next year, it’s considered as great Award bait of a movie. The frontrunner is a cinematic tale of American Senator Gary Hart’s 1988 presidential campaign, and how it was derailed when he was caught up in a scandalous love affair.

The production of the movie began this week, and is not expected to be released until late next year, but those are two important movies that Jackman has a shot at an award. Cause we know how much Hollywood loves real life stories. Well he checks 2 of those boxes. An inspirational period piece tale of an incredible entrepreneur, and a political (historic) drama filled with scandals and turmoil? Yup all the boxes are checked for Jackman.

So, trust me… This won’t be the only year for Hugh Jackman. Yes Logan and The Greatest showman will not be ignored, but be prepared to hear more about the actor in 2018 also. I just wanted to give you a heads up. Don’t say you weren’t warned properly and in advance.

“Up until now, Jackman has never NEVER played a real life character.”

I know it’s a film blog, but he DID play real-life person Peter Allen on Broadway. Nice article though. I’d say his career has been pretty consistent and stable with plenty of varied roles and therefore didn’t really need a “renaissance”, but I agree things have definitely been on the upswing for him this year. Let’s hope that Logan was not the “peak”.
