Meet The Man Who Will Become Charles Manson… Twice
You’ve probably heard the news, but you’ve probably never heard about the man in those news. Quentin Tarantino cast the Australian actor Damon Herriman in his upcoming crime period piece called Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, and David Fincher cast the same actor in the second season of the crime drama Mindhunter.
But here’s the kick. Herriman will be playing the same character in both of those projects. Charles Manson. Yeah, Once Upon A Time will depict the infamous Manson murders in 1969, while the two lead characters (Holden Ford and Bill Tench) will focus on the Atlanta Child Murders, which took place between 1979 and 1981, and apparently on Charles Manson too.
But who is Damon Herriman? Well, at the age of 48, Damon started his acting career in the early 80’s. He was a fixture on Australian TV and cinema until 2005, when he starred in his first Hollywood produced movie (Son Of The Mask) and since then he’s been appearing in both US and Australian projects.
His most notable TV role was that of Dewey Crowe in Justified, and since he’s been known to portray quite a real life characters as well. The Australian gang leader Michael Howe in The Outlaw Michael Howe, INXS band manager Chris Murphy in the two part mini-series and Bruno Richard Hauptmann in J.Edgar. Soooo. Two notorious killers in less than a decade.
But there must be something special about Damon that both of these filmmakers decided to cast him in the same role. Sure the physical resemblance is present, but I’m yet to find out if he’s any good in this role. You have to remember, this is one of the most manipulative, vicious and crazy people in the history and not only he’ll have to portray him twice, he’ll have to do it on film and on TV. Two vastly different mediums.
So, yeah. I can’t wait for the two projects to be released. I’m a huge fan of Tarantino’s work and of Mindhunter’s first season. And all I can see is GOOOO Damon!
