Blast from the past

Just 3 of my favorite Hubert de Givenchy film costumes

It’s a sad day for the fashion industry. The French fashion designer Hubert de Givenchy, died at the age of 91. Givenchy as he was known was a designer of the little black dress, a staple in modern French fashion and was later immortalized in the movies like Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Paris when it sizzles.

He was also a dear friend and frequent professional collaborator of Audrey Hepburn, in a friendship that lasted almost 40 years. He created the costume for some of her best and well known movies: Sabrina, Charade, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Funny Face, and for the latter was even nominated for an Academy Award.

But for now I want to talk about my favorite Givenchy film costumes. Yes they are plenty, but for the sake of time, and your patience i’m gonna go with just 3 of them.

The wedding dress from Funny Face

Timeless and classic. It’s also very similar to my wedding dress, and it’s always a compliment to have Audrey as your wedding muse, don’t you think?

LBD in Paris when it sizzles

I know that the intro scene in Breakfast is iconic, and so is the black dress that she wears in that scenes, but I find that the LBD in Paris when it sizzles is way better.

The tennis court dress in Sabrina

Now I hate hate strapless dresses but even I have to admit that this is one beautiful dress. I loved how it fit in that scene perfectly, and is as timeless as almost everything that Audrey wore in that movie.
