You’ve probably heard about Black Dahlia before. The story about the gruesome murder of the young and aspiring actress Elizabeth Short. Well, at the beginning of next year, there will be another project about the notorious murder, and this time coming from the Patty Jenkins.Chris Pine duo.
“I Am The Night” the mini-series is set to premiere on TNT in January 2019 and it has Chris Pine in the role of Jay Singletary. A reporter who is desperately trying to break open the Dahlia case. Patty Jenkins is credited as director on 3 of the 6 total episodes, and the mini series will be shown on TNT network.
Short’s unsolved murder and the details surrounding it have had a lasting cultural intrigue, generating various theories and public speculation. Her life and death have been the basis of numerous books and films, and her murder is frequently cited as one of the most famous unsolved murders in American history, as well as one of the oldest unsolved cases in Los Angeles County. It has likewise been credited by historians as one of the first major crimes in post-World War II America to capture national attention.
At the time of her death, Short was just 22 years of age, and living the staple life of almost every aspiring actress in Hollywood. She was working as a waitress, while trying tom make it in the business. But the most gruesome fact about her murder is that the killer who had body dismembered and severed in half, was never caught and put behind bars. There were many suspects about the Black Dahlia murder, but no one was put behind bars, to this very day.
Among the most famous fictional accounts of Short’s death is James Ellroy’s 1987 novel The Black Dahlia, which, in addition to the murder, explored “the larger fields of politics, crime, corruption, and paranoia in post-war Los Angeles”, according to cultural critic David M. Fine. Ellroy’s novel was adapted into a 2006 film of the same name by director Brian De Palma. But what are the rest of the Black Dahlia inspired projects?
