Bohemian Rhapsody Vol 2: Introducing Rami Malek
Rami is probably the most known and recognizable character in Bohemian Rhapsody. A well respected actor that has won an Emmy and has been nominated for 2 Golden Globe awards, Rami rose to fame thanks to the leading role in the outstanding psychological thriller drama series Mr. Robot.
The role of Elliot Alderson has made him a well-known face with the general public, but the role in Mr. Robot has also opened a lot of doors for him too. Since starring in Mr. Robot (from 2015), Rami has had 3 amazing projects.
First it was the surreal mystery film Buster’s Mal Heart, and after that was the remake of the cult film Papillon. Joined by Charlie Hunnam, Papillon tells the story of French convict Henri Charrière (Charlie Hunnam), nicknamed “Papillon”, who was imprisoned in 1933 and escaped in 1941 with the help of another convict, counterfeiter Louis Dega (Rami Malek).
And let’s not forget Bohemian Rhapsody. Yes. The long awaited biopics about the British band Queen, was plagued with production problems for years now, but it seems to me that it will not only see the light of the day it will be a strong contended in the upcoming Award race in Hollywood. Rami plays Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, with the movie focusing on lead singer Freddie Mercury’s life and leading up to Queen’s Live Aid performance at Wembley Stadium in 1985.
The film is scheduled for release in the United Kingdom on 24 October 2018 and in the United States on 2 November 2018, and I can hardly wait to see it to be quite frank. But while Rami is enjoying the fruits of his labor right now, let’s take a moment and reflect on what kind of a labor it was. He starred opposite Oscar winners like Brie Larson (in Short Term 12) Casey Affleck (In Ain’t Them Bodies Saints), Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts (Larry Crowne) and of course opposite the late Robin Williams in Night at the Museum trilogy.
He starred in a Twillight movie and in a Paul Thomas Anderson movie all in the same year, and back in 2017, he was invited to become a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Bohemian Rhapsody will be a reunion with his The Pacific co-star Joseph Mazzello, and I just can’t wait for the movie to come out in theaters.
Watch out for Rami Malek in 2019. The Oscar buzz that he’s generating right now is not for nothing, and you just might see him get his first Oscar nomination. It will be much deserved.
