And The Oscar Goes To… Christian Bale
You’ve probably seen the first official Trailer for Vice.
The Adam McKay’s latest directorial effort that has Christian Bale, Amy Adams and Sam Rockwell in the leads? Yeah, that’s the one.
Vice, the biographical comedy-drama about Dick Chaney’s rise to political power during the George W. Bush administration has the long awaited trailer finally released and it’s pretty much awesome. Bale plays the ex- Vice President of USA with the same commitment and conviction that he plays almost every other character, but I have a feeling that this one’s going to be different.
I have a feeling that it will bring Bale his second Academy Award in his career, and first in leading role. Yeah, I know that he’s famous for loosing and gaining weight for his roles, but this is quite something. If you pause for a second at 1 minute and 8 seconds of the trailer you’ll notice a huge belly that is not a prosthetic one. I’m guessing that it’s mostly due to a diet of cheeseburgers and milkshakes on his part.
And while makeup and costumes do play some part in completing the look, you’ll notice that the actor’s talent’s finish the rest of the job. Bale and especially Sam Rockwell (who plays George W. Bush) don’t necessarily look like the people that they portray but god damn it they make them look identical thanks to their voice, mannerisms and their talent in general.
Oh yeah, and I love how the title of this movie is Vice. Other words couldn’t have captured Dick Chaney better. His hunger for power was almost like a vice to him and it was that VICE precisely that was his biggest downfall.
So, yeah….
Mark my words. Come January you’ll be seeing Bale (and probably Rockwell, Adams) getting their Oscar nominations and in March of 2019 their Oscars. Bale for me is a shoo-in but we’ll see about the rest.
Vice is scheduled to be released on December 25, 2018.
