Aladdin TV Spot: Is It Just Me Or Will Smith Looks Like Tobias Fünke?

You’ve probably seen it 😉 The latest TV sport for Aladdin. You know the life action adaptation of the beloved 90’s Disney classic that nobody asked for.

Well, the life action version of Aladdin is directed by Guy Ritchie and it ha Mena Massoud as the title character alongside Will Smith, Naomi Scott, Marwan Kenzari, Navid Negahban, Nasim Pedrad among others.

The first trailer was released a while back, but in the latest TV spot, we actually get to see the Gennie. Smith portrays that iconic character both in person (painted in the color blue) and in CGI, and frankly it doesn’t look good.

I mean it looks like Smith is imitating Tobias Fünke (David Cross in Arrested Development), and it definitely looks like the CGI will be terrible during the entire movie. I know that at this point (months ahead of the premiere) the CGI still needs work, but come on. Why they didn’t stick to solely CGI? It worked for plenty of live action adaptations before and it should have worked now.

The live adaptation of Aladdin is not looking hopeful at this point and as good as Will Smith is, he just can’t fill in the shoes of Robin Williams. Why? Because Robin had the natural gift of making that character amazing. He was on nitro speed in the movie, and Will Smith will fall short in comparison. Robin is and always be my only Genie, as far as i’m concerned.

I hope that I’m mistaken and for the sake of plenty of 90’s kids like me who grew up on Aladdin, I hope that I’m wrong about this. But right now, Will looks like a blue disaster.

Aladdin is scheduled to be released on May 24, 2019.
